Among topics discussed at the meeting were recent advances in usage of Transgenomic technology of importance to the molecular genetics community. An outstanding group of scientists from Baylor College of Medicine, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and The University of Texas Houston Health Science Center participated in the program. The users’ group meeting was followed by an afternoon Technical Seminar at Baylor College of Medicine given by the regional Application Scientist for the southeastern U.S., Dr. Stan Lilleberg. Dr. Lilleberg highlighted the versatility of the WAVE System technology, including detection of known and unknown mutations, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), short tandem repeats (STRs), and purification and quality control of oligonucleotides. Data was also presented from ongoing projects at leading U.S. research institutions in collaboration with Transgenomic. The day was concluded with an Open House Reception at the Houston Regional Office. Regional Sales Managers, Application Scientists, Technical Specialists, and Dr. Karl Hecker, the Director of Applied Research, were available to speak with researchers about the WAVE System technology. Activities included system demonstrations, tours of the facility, and door prizes. Dr. David Owerbach from Baylor College of Medicine remarked about this inaugural Wave® System Users’ Group Meeting: I found the day as a whole and the interaction with other WAVE System users to be very beneficial. It is great to see the number of other users and enthusiasm for the technology continuing to grow. In total more than 70 people participated in the day’s events. Plans have already begun for the next Users’ Group Meeting and series of seminars at Research Triangle Park in North Carolina. |
