Rodney S. Markin, M.D., Ph.D.– Chairman
Rodney S. Markin is currently Professor of Pathology and Microbiology and Surgery, Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, College of Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Chairman, President and CEO of UNMC Physicians (the UNMC Medical Practice). Dr. Markin’s professional and academic research interests have focused on clinical laboratory automation, which include but are not limited to, robotics, information systems, medical utilization management and outcomes optimization. Dr. Markin received his Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry with a minor in mathematics and physics from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1977; his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.-biochemistry) from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1980; his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center (Omaha) in 1983. Dr. Markin completed his residency in pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Markin is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Dr. Markin founded LAB-InterLink, a spin-out of the University of Nebraska Medical Center that provided products for hospital-based laboratory automation systems. He served as CEO of the company, and provided the early funding to grow the business. LAB-InterLink was sold to Cardinal Health. The intellectual property and technology is currently owned by Abbott Diagnostics. Dr. Markin is also a Director of Nebraska Surgical Solutions, Inc.
Craig J. Tuttle – Director
Craig J. Tuttle has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Transgenomic since July 2006. Mr. Tuttle was previously the President and COO of Duke Scientific, a specialty particle technology company, and before that he was the President and CEO of Applied Biotech, Inc, a leading point-of-care rapid diagnostics manufacturer in the Apogent Technologies group. He has held management positions at Seradyn, Boehringer Mannheim, Difco Laboratories and Cetus Corporation. Mr. Tuttle holds a B.S. degree in Biochemistry from UCLA, an M.S. degree in Biochemistry from the University of Colorado, and an MBA from St. Mary’s College.
Gregory J. Duman – Director
Mr. Duman is currently the President of Prism Technologies LLC, a privately held patent licensing company. Before joining Prism, Mr. Duman served as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Finance and Administration for Transgenomic from April 16, 2001 through January 3, 2003. Mr. Duman has been a director of Transgenomic since March 2000. Prior to joining Transgenomic Mr. Duman was with Artios, Inc., a transaction processing services company, as Chief Financial Officer from March 2000 through April 2001. Prior to that, he was Executive Vice President of Transaction Systems Architects, Inc. (TSA), a software company. He joined TSA in 1983 and served in several capacities, including Chief Financial Officer through February 2000. Mr. Duman was a director on the Board for TSA from March of 2000 through July of 2002. From 1979 to 1983, he worked for Arthur Andersen & Co. as a certified public accountant.
Jeffrey Sklar, M.D., Ph.D. – Director
Dr. Sklar is Professor of Pathology at Yale University School of Medicine. Previously, he was on the faculty of Stanford University and Harvard Medical School. He also serves as director of the Program in Molecular Diagnostic at Yale. Dr. Sklar serves on the editorial boards of numerous journals in the areas of
pathology and cancer, and on scientific advisory committees: the Dana-Farber Cancer Center, Boston, MA; the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Seattle, Washington; the New England Regional Primate Center; Harvard University; and the National Institutes of Health. He has served on the scientific advisory boards of numerous companies in the biotechnology field. Dr. Sklar holds an M.D. and Ph.D. from Yale University, and an M.A. (honorary) from Harvard University.
Gregory T. Sloma – Director
Mr. Sloma is currently the President of G.O., Inc., a privately held real estate company. Additionally, he sits on the board of Naturally Iowa, LLC, an organic food processor. From January 2004 through January 2006, he was the President and CFO for SpeedNet Services, Inc., a privately held Wireless Internet Provider. Prior to SpeedNet, Mr. Sloma held various positions at DTN, a publicly traded electronic information company. During his ten plus years at DTN, his positions included Vice Chairman, Director of Mergers and Acquisitions, Chief Executive Officer, President and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining DTN in April of 1993, Mr. Sloma spent 17 years at Deloitte & Touche, specializing in tax consulting. He started with Deloitte in 1976 and became Partner in charge of Tax, Omaha office, in 1983. Mr. Sloma received his J.D. degree, cum laude, in Business and Tax Law from the University of Nebraska in 1976, and a B.S.B.A. degree, cum laude, in Accounting from Creighton University in 1973. He is a CPA. Mr. Sloma also served on the board of West Corporation prior to it being purchased in the fall of 2006.
Frank R. Witney, Ph.D. – Director
Frank R. Witney is currently President, CEO and a member of the Board of Directors of Panomics Inc. Panomics develops and markets products for single and multiplex gene and protein expression analysis from cell and tissue specimens, as well as cell-based assays. Dr. Witney is currently serving as a board member for Applied Precision, a privately held company that serves the semiconductor process and measurement systems and life science imaging market. Dr. Witney’s professional and academic interests have been focused on the biotech and life sciences market throughout his career. Prior to his current position, he was President of PerkinElmer’s Drug Discovery Business Unit and before that he served as President and COO of Packard BioSciences.
